* fix(setup): report host-owned cleanup resources alongside the primary's
SetupHost.close documents that it reports the resources a setup host still
owns, but its contract returned only a string. runSetup therefore built the
ProviderCleanupError from the primary failure's cleanupResources alone, so a
resource the host failed to release reached the projection only inside a
free-text reason while the error asks the caller to review the reported local
resources.
Return a SetupCloseReport instead. closeSetupResources absorbs the structured
resources of any cause that reports them, through
ArtifactReaderFailure.cleanupObservation, and leaves opaque failures
message-only so no resource name is invented. runSetup then unions the host's
resources with the primary's before building the typed cleanup error.
Two boundary tests read the close result directly: the skill-cleanup case now
asserts the retained backup path in the report reason rather than in a bare
string, and the shared ownership helper takes an opaque close result because it
only ever awaits undefined from either host it is given.
Validation: RED then green in src/application/Setup.recovery.test.ts, where
the new case previously received only the primary resource; 116 tests across
the seven Setup and cleanup-ownership suites pass; tsc --noEmit over the
changed set, its setup callers, and both boundary tests exits 0; oxlint
reports 0 errors; oxfmt --check is clean; verify:module-boundaries passes.
The two failures in src/setupEnvironment.test.ts reproduce identically on
pristine bded9c628 with this change stashed.

Preserve original RegularFileCleanupFailure capabilities when registration
inspection or maintenance planning has no caller-supplied resource scope.
Keep scoped diagnostics with the scope that already retained the descriptor.
Cover configuration and policy sources, completed and malformed-UTF8 reads,
all four exported reader/planner boundaries, exact descriptor retry after
pathname replacement, no subsequent execution, and scoped cleanup retry.
Validation: 79 tests across four focused files; the historical baseline fails
all 16 new ownership-transfer controls with eight existing/scoped controls
passing. check:fast, format:check, test discovery and six isolated completed
public doctor comparisons passed. Scoped source review found no blocker.
Real temporary descriptors and injected close rejection on macOS arm64 /
Node24.18.0; no native Windows/Linux close faults or provider verification.
Fixes#4910
Replace configuration-specific write-file-atomic delegation with a verified
input snapshot, exclusive private staging, and an explicit canonical-parent
destination. Existing files publish by rename; first-run files use an exclusive
link so a newly created destination is retained. Both consumers read back the
publication owner's selected path.
Retain descriptor and staging cleanup capabilities through recovery and host
retry. Preserve mode and ownership, remove temporary permission handoffs, and
use positional restoration writes. Keep UTF-8 diagnostics with failed cleanup.
Validation: 284 focused tests passed, one skipped across 14 files; check:fast,
format:check, docs:check (including five consistency tests), two source reviews,
and 12 completed isolated public CLI setup/uninstall cost controls passed.
Native Windows/Linux, real editor concurrency, and providers were not verified.
Final-check/publication races and same-inode concurrent writers remain unexcluded.
Fixes#4904
* feat(clients): register ZCode during setup
- SupportedClients: zcode definition (~/.zcode/cli/config.json, format
zcode, personal skills at ~/.zcode/skills)
- ClientConfigurationDocument: zcode dialect reads/writes the nested
mcp.servers table; withClientServers now tolerates a missing outer
table for fresh documents
- docs: add ZCode to the supported-clients table with configuration notes
- tests: zcodeClientConfiguration.test.ts (path resolution, nested
upsert, fresh/empty configs, uninstall)
Verified: tsc --noEmit clean; vitest run
tests/boundary/filesystem/zcodeClientConfiguration.test.ts 6/6.
* fix(clients): preserve ZCode fallback servers and honor enable flag
Review follow-up (#1564), two integration gaps:
- ZCode reads the user-scope ~/.agents/mcp.json fallback only while the
native .zcode config defines no servers at all, with no merging. Setup
now copies the fallback's mcpServers entries into the native table when
writing the first native server, so registrations that only live in
the fallback keep loading; the fallback file is left untouched. A
malformed fallback fails setup closed (configure and preflight)
instead of being silently suppressed.
- ZCode disables a server with "enable": false on its entry, which the
generic status parsing (disabled/enabled) did not recognize: doctor
reported such a registration as aligned although ZCode never starts
it. The ZCode dialect now treats enable: false as disabled (state
stale) and setup rewrites the entry on rerun.
Docs describe both behaviors; the bundled REA skill's supported client
list includes zcode.
Verified: tsc --noEmit clean; vitest run
tests/boundary/filesystem/zcodeClientConfiguration.test.ts 10/10;
npm run check:fast green; npm run verify:test-discovery 733 files.
* fix(clients): reject non-regular ZCode fallback files before reading
Resolve the fallback through the client-config transaction path and the
regular-file admission before parsing it, so a FIFO or other non-regular
file at ~/.agents/mcp.json fails setup closed instead of blocking the
read indefinitely. Directory and FIFO fallback cases are covered in
tests, and the preflight remediation names unreadable fallbacks too.
