* fix(firmware): preserve symlink target bytes
* fix(apple): preserve undecodable dylib link targets
* style(tests): fix CI formatting
* test(firmware): select the named contract directly
* test(firmware): record raw bytes for a decodable symlink target
* test(mcp): assert bundle path issues by field
compare_bundles reports each relative path as an invalid_format issue
instead of one joined diagnostic sentence.
* test(firmware): stat raw links without following them
access follows a symlink, so a published dangling raw-link still looked
absent. lstat and readlink inspect the link itself.

Centralize completed file observations and cleanup error projection across stable-file providers while preserving each provider’s failure classification and exact cleanup leases. Cover BEAM finalization cancellation and devicetree cleanup retries.
Validated 223 focused lifecycle and MCP tests and check:fast.
Derive dependency and generic-error facts once per owning task, chunk or multifile stage. Reuse those facts for failure classification and dependency aggregation, preserving unnamed identities, severity precedence and raw diagnostics.
Validation: 70 focused tests passed; 41 platform-guarded tests skipped on macOS. Typecheck and lint passed. Real Unblob/Linux provider behavior was not run.
Normalize completed stable-file path, digest and length in one shared observation owner. Migrate thirteen identical provider projections while preserving their selected paths, schema checks and cleanup composition.
Keep specialized metadata and worker reply observations at their existing owners. Validation: shared real-descriptor coverage and provider lifecycle tests passed; build, typecheck, lint and formatting passed.
Capture one environment snapshot per admitted WABT, JADX, firmware and Wakaru operation. Use it for tool selection, session identity and child launches while preserving configuration updates between operations.
Regressions reproduce changed JVM options under an old session key, mixed engine/limiter selection and environment drift between subprocesses. Keep selected-wrapper and cleanup coverage in a shared fixture with separate scenarios.
Validation: 115 distinct focused tests passed across the final five-file selection, including seven selected-command cases after refactoring. Fresh build, typecheck, lint and formatting passed. Tests use real subprocess fixtures; no real JADX/WABT/Binwalk/Wakaru engine or native Windows verification is claimed.
Return the validated descriptor and its original metadata from regular-file
admission. Propagate that contract through owned reads, hashes, snapshots,
artifact inventory and provider file workflows instead of replacing initial
facts with another stat. Keep arbitrary output-handle operations separate.
Preserve final descriptor/path identity proofs, borrowed-source verification,
BigInt precision, cancellation provenance and failed-close ownership. Remove
the obsolete source and owned-ZIP baseline stages and update their consumers
and regressions. Tie read completion faults to actual reads instead of the
retired duplicate stat; instrument real handles without fake handle wrappers.
Validation: fresh runtime/catalog build; focused source, lifecycle, filesystem,
CLI/MCP and authored provider-fixture tests; full static checks; docs checks;
test discovery; duplication check. Platform-specific cases remain skipped on
macOS. No installed provider or device behavior was verified.
Keep malformed canonical devicetree phandles unresolved instead of falling back to legacy identities. Report the PE dynamic relocation offset and section at their exact source widths with Size-gated absence and zero preservation. Clarify classic kernel-module version coverage and byte-preserving string encoding.
Validation: 158 focused parser, service, filesystem, and finalization regressions; 14 CLI/MCP tests; build, typecheck/lint, formatting, and docs checks passed. Fixtures establish parser behavior; no external analysis engines were exercised.
* feat(firmware): inspect flattened devicetree blobs
Adds inspect-devicetree and inspect_devicetree for FDT v16/v17 blobs
without target execution or external dependencies. Results include
validated headers, reservations, a node/property tree with bounded raw
previews, and derived standard values and selected phandle references.
Parsing enforces file, tree, and decoded representation budgets and
rejects malformed input without partial success. Summary delivery
supports retained Evidence pagination, with tests covering parsing,
service validation, CLI delivery, and MCP access after the input is
removed.

* fix(firmware): reject conflicting devicetree phandles and bound page summaries
A node whose phandle and linux, phandle disagree no longer resolves under
either value; the conflict is reported as a limitation. Finalization
failures after a completed read retain the file-snapshot-hash partial
observation, matching the Go provider. Devicetree view pages carry
fixed-size context and counts instead of repeating summary strings, so a
large bootargs no longer pushes every page over the MCP response budget.

The staging refusal told callers to increase max_output_files or max_output_bytes within its schema maximum. At the schema ceiling that recovery does not exist, so the refusal was unactionable exactly where the least room remains.
firmwareStagingBudgetRemediation now branches on the selected value against the schema maximum: below the ceiling it names the room and the control, at the ceiling it states that a further raise is unsupported and points at a smaller firmware byte range. The schema maxima move into named constants so the advice and the accepted range cannot drift apart.
Verified with a module test for both budgets at the ceiling and one below it (red on the previous single-form remediation), plus the existing firmware suites.
Project completed values and cancellation from the descriptor owner once across artifact consumers. Preserve completed void outcomes and format-specific validation and cleanup policies.
Keep later aborts from replacing captured APK and SQLite close failures, and retain the exact APK cancellation reason. Exercise real descriptors, public workflows and cleanup retries.
* fix(mcp): report Linux-only integrations as unsupported_host off their hosts
Session discovery folded the host check into each optional integration's
enabled flag, so on macOS or Windows the Linux-only packet, signal,
firmware, pwntools, EVM and Wakaru tools reported provider_missing.
Their execution guards refuse those hosts whatever is configured, so
installing a provider there could never make them available.
The server now records, per integration, when the host is outside its
verified host and no service is injected. Discovery checks that before
configuration and reports unsupported_host with the existing
remediation. Injected services and supported hosts behave as before.

* refactor(mcp): share provider host checks with session discovery
Discovery restated each Linux-only integration's host rule in
createServer while its provider kept a separate execution check, so the
two could drift apart again. Each provider now exports its host
predicate, uses it in its execution guard, and composition hands the
same predicate to createServer for both the host restriction and the
enabled flag.
Observed host restrictions now also apply when an embedder supplies its
own availability policy, as provider load failures already do, because
no policy lets the default providers pass their host checks.
The MCP regression moves to tests/process-global and emulates darwin
arm64, linux arm64 and linux x64 through the real createServer, so CI on
Linux x64 exercises the unsupported-host branch. It also covers a
configured policy and the matching execution refusals.

* fix(mcp): keep caller host restrictions beside observed ones
The observed host restriction replaced a configured policy's whole
hostUnsupported map. For an injected service the observed value is
false, so a caller's own restriction was lost and the tool was reported
available. Combine both per integration: either the caller or the
observed host can mark it unsupported.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* test(pcap): expect unsupported_host for packet tools off Linux
The host-independent PATH case asserted provider_missing on every host.
Off Linux the packet tools are unavailable because of the host, so
discovery now reports unsupported_host there; Linux still reports
provider_missing for an unusable PATH.

* refactor(process): share paired prlimit ceiling ownership
Route firmware, Wakaru, and pcap paired ceilings through
LinuxResourceLimits without changing their byte or CPU budgets.
Keep EVMole's soft-only limits as a dated architecture-guard exception.

* test(pcap): admit capture limits without host prlimit
The ceiling test only checks the shared argument prefix, so it uses a
temporary executable instead of /usr/bin/prlimit.

* style(pcap): format the capture ceiling test
oxfmt rejected the object literal wrapping in PcapNativeBound.test.ts.

Construct integer formats directly while preserving bounds, refinements, metadata and current shared schema owners. Keep Incur-dependent CLI numeric coercion declarations unchanged.
Verify canonical advertisements, 126 numeric boundary cases, 974 actual CLI parser cases, broad source tests and real public-artifact SDK workflows. Record 72 normal tasks and 12 separate owned-inspector heap diagnostics with whole-family resource bounds; distinguish SDK spans and asymmetric audit overhead. Generate numerical report sections from receipts and reject stale tables through documentation conformance checks.
Closes#6236. Current-head CI and Greptile pass; actionable review findings are addressed. Codex review was unavailable due repository usage limits.
* fix(engines): keep format ceilings fixed and recover the EVMole deadline
Promote the owned EVMole worker wall clock to timeout_ms and name it in
recovery. Fixed CPU, byte, and address-space refusals in this theme say
the adjustable deadline does not raise them.

* fix(engines): recover the allowance that refused the request
Model capacity recovery follows a structured limit instead of message text,
and the shared header ceiling no longer names Safetensors. Firmware signal
errors keep captured tool output, oversized reports do not suggest an
intermittent rerun, and NativeAOT hydration budget exhaustion explains the
fixed parser allowance on the partial report.

* fix(firmware): keep a missing producer report distinct after exit 0
A firmware engine that exits 0 without writing its requested report now
fails with the observed report state (missing, empty, invalid_json,
oversized, not_regular_file), the command, arguments, exit status and
captured output, plus report-specific recovery instead of generic
`rea doctor` advice. REA still does not retry or substitute an empty
result.

* fix(firmware): keep missing-report recovery from replaying removed paths
The recorded command arguments name REA's private workspace, which is
removed after the attempt. Recovery now presents them as provenance and
tells callers to replace every private path when reproducing the run.
Cover the oversized and not_regular_file report states.

Expose per-call firmware analysis budgets with exact recovery guidance, shared
CLI/MCP validation and retained actual settings. Keep publication and fixed
resource policy independent; preserve typed interruption and one captured-output

and authorized readiness override are recorded in #5863.

Separate extraction/inventory and caller-selectable publication budgets in the shared firmware workflow. Preserve phase, selected timeout, verified progress, caller cancellation identity and committed observations through cleanup. Enforce monotonic expiry even before timer callbacks run.
Validated with 101 targeted tests, full static checks, documentation checks and real OpenWrt CLI/MCP workflows with digest and cleanup verification. Existing main CI failures are documented separately.
Fixes#4176.
Return the canonical owner and lease from failed releases. Compose initial
cleanup failures from explicit operation outcomes and failed attempts, and
carry their authority through the shared artifact failure contract.
Keep independent unknown cleanup unresolved. Distinguish operation failures
from completed work whose close rejected. Let the scope own current child
resource labels without replacing its canonical retry lease.
Cover mixed owners, partial release, cancellation provenance, typed close
rejections and independent unknown cleanup through the producing boundaries.
Reuse canonical artifact chunk reads across hash, snapshot, range and publication, leaving cleanup to the exact owner. Let the reader own cancellation, preserve same-read physical failures, and classify growth past the input allowance through the existing typed admission failure.
Validation: 46 focused tests across four files, docs checks and five conformance tests. Native file IO with controlled faults; no Linux firmware engines verified. Shared post-cleanup error projection remains tracked in #4628. Refs #4619, #4475
Record cancellation at file checkpoints and before owner handoff. Keep physical hash failures, exact reasons, completed facts and failed-close owners distinct through artifact and provider projections and cleanup retries.
Refs #4598. Validated with 566 passing affected tests and 22 platform skips; final Kuna cleanup reason rerun passed 43 tests. No Android device or real JADX/Kuna execution claimed.
* fix: select caller paths through symlinks and .. as the filesystem does
CLI adapters, binary target resolution, the reverse-engineering service
and the objdump and Rizin command builders made caller-selected paths
absolute with path.resolve, which collapses `link/..` lexically. On
POSIX the filesystem follows `link` first, so these commands inspected,
hashed or launched a different file and returned internally consistent
Evidence for it.
absoluteCallerPath now owns that step: on POSIX it prefixes a relative
path with the working directory and keeps an absolute path as spelled;
on Windows, where `..` resolves lexically, it keeps win32.resolve.

* fix: keep firmware, WASM list and output-root paths on the selected file
Review follow-up. The CLI already passed firmware and WASM paths through
absoluteCallerPath, but snapshotFirmware and SafeOutputTree.create
re-resolved them lexically, and the WASM glue and candidate lists still
used resolve, so those inputs could still select a sibling file or
create output beside the intended directory.
absoluteCallerPath now also drops `.` segments and repeated or trailing
separators on POSIX, which never change the named file, so selected
paths such as `./module.wasm` keep matching their glue references
exactly. Every `..` is still left for the filesystem.
SafeOutputTree keeps host path syntax; its platform argument selects only
the Windows name policy.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
* fix: keep directory requirements and relative cwd in caller paths
Review follow-up. absoluteCallerPath stripped a trailing `/` or `/.`, so
`file/` selected the regular file instead of failing with ENOTDIR; it
now keeps one trailing separator. A relative cwd option was appended to
the root; it is now made absolute without collapsing `..`. WASM glue
matching resolved local literals lexically, so a module selected through
`link/..` matched only by basename; the adapter now compares both sides
through absoluteCallerPath and still reports each candidate as given.

Authenticate residual unknown IDs against their immutable identity fields. Permit valid empty ZIP extraction manifests and join firmware child provenance to parent-owned chunk and multi-file reports without inventing missing source ranges.
Validated with focused identity, archive, cleanup, and firmware normalization tests. Firmware joins were checked against the pinned Unblob producer; no real Unblob extraction was run.
* fix: order remaining outputs independently of host locale
String.prototype.localeCompare without a pinned collation follows the
host's ICU default locale, so the same input could be ordered differently
on different machines. 614fb768 moved canonical domain projections to
compareUnicodeCodePoints; provider, application, catalog, and setup
orderings still used locale collation.
Order every remaining source site by Unicode code point, including Mach-O
symbols, firmware extraction paths, ASAR entries (previously pinned to
"en" collation), evidence ID sets, browser and Electron target, script,
and resource inventories, reconstruction obligations, capability and
provider listings, and setup environment details.
The current tool and prompt catalog names order identically under both
comparators, so the catalog identity digest is unchanged.
* fix(artifacts): order ASAR entries by their portable path
@electron/asar lists host-spelled paths, so code-point order over the raw
spelling still differed by host: "a\b" sorts after "a0" on Windows while
"a/b" sorts before it on POSIX. Pair each listing with its portable
archive path once, order by that path, and keep the host spelling for
@electron/asar calls and adapter keys.
Unblob reports a missing external extractor as an
ExtractorDependencyNotFoundReport nested inside a chunk or multi-file
report, and normalizeUnblobReport forwarded that value verbatim into
diagnostics as { input_path, report }. A caller that reached partial
coverage therefore had to decode the raw producer report to learn which
extractor was absent and at which stage, even though the report already
names the dependencies.
Extraction diagnostics now normalize those entries: the named
dependencies are collected from the report and any nested value, the
producing handler is recorded as the stage, and the original report stays
retained for provenance. Entries without a dependency report keep their
previous shape.
Validation: FirmwareReports unit cases cover the chunk-nested and
multi-file-nested dependency reports and the retained raw report;
firmware suite passes; typecheck, oxlint and oxfmt on changed files. Real
Unblob extraction is unverified here because it needs the external
extractor stack.
Require an ArtifactResourceScope for web script exports and share its lifetime with CLI or MCP shutdown. Retain setup-failed output trees in firmware and Wakaru providers. Preserve completed publications when descriptor cleanup fails, returning the full result after a successful retry or as a partial observation while cleanup remains unresolved.
* fix: bind identity and coverage to the producing rule
Logical paths, container families, examined bytes, path-segment conventions, destination collisions, file-id leases, Mach-O CPU selection, and firmware cleanup now follow the observation that owns each rule.
* fix: fail unmatched Mach-O slices and keep firmware roots independent
A fat target whose architecture lipo did not list now stops before slice tools run. Chained fixups still count unread LC_DYLD_INFO rebase bytes, and a firmware cleanup failure no longer blocks the next workspace.
* test: cover path identity and runtime families at the projection boundary
NFC joins and segment conventions are now asserted by the path resolver, the Apple projection, and a real APK inventory instead of helper unit tests.
* test: expect unread dyld rebase bytes in the Apple dispatch fixture
The legacy LC_DYLD_INFO fixture keeps a rebase range this reader does not decode, so the public CLI and MCP check now requires that partial coverage beside the bind opcodes.

Host and tool-configuration refusals from the pwntools, EVMole, firmware,
mitmproxy, Wakaru, LLDB and xcrun adapters carried no userMessage, so CLI
and MCP callers saw the generic "This analysis is unavailable for the
current target. Choose another analysis or target." as both message and
remediation. Choosing another target cannot satisfy a Linux-only profile
or an unset REA_*_COMMAND. The actual requirement appeared only in
details.reason.
Pass each refusal's reason as its userMessage, as the adapters' other
configuration refusals (EVMole limits, JADX, pwndbg) already do.
